The Prime Minister of the UAE & Ruler of Dubai Announced a New Federal Traffic Law
On the 10th of June 2024 during the cabinet meeting a new federal law on traffic was announced and approved, as per statement of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
The new law states that there will be amendments made to the classification of vehicles as per the use of modern technology being used on roads. This law aims at keeping in par with the rapid development the transport industry is facing globally. UAE, is no behind when it comes to keeping itself up to date with the modern development in transport industry worldwide.
The prime minister said in his interview that this new legislation will cover various means of modern transport systems and its expansion in the country. He said that this law will now cover the expansion of EV Vehicles, Self-driving vehicles, personal means of transport and the modernisation in the transportation as a whole in the UAE.
Some categories are exempted from obtaining DL – Driving License which is also mentioned under this law. This act covers the suspension of Driving Licences, permits, transits, vehicle insurance, vehicle inspections and regulations in place for driving schools.
If one thing the UAE government is strong on delivering to the people is a good transport system that is well in pace with the modern standards, said the ruler of Dubai. He also added that this law will be flexible towards development in the technological progresses, thus supporting the enhancement of the entire country’s road transport system.
