Dubai is getting ready to Welcome Project “Tasreef”. The future of Dubai’s Rain Drainage Network.

In a groundbreaking move to safeguard the future of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has announced the approval of an ambitious Dh30-billion project to develop an integrated rain drainage network. This transformative initiative, aptly named ‘Tasreef’, promises to enhance the capacity of Dubai’s rainwater drainage system by an astounding 700%, covering every corner of the emirate.

Set to be completed by 2033 with construction commencing immediately, ‘Tasreef’ is designed to serve Dubai for the next hundred years. This monumental project aims to absorb over 20 million cubic meters of water per day, making it the largest network of its kind in the region. It represents a significant leap forward in Dubai’s infrastructure, ensuring the city is well-prepared to handle the challenges posed by future climate change, including increased rainfall.

‘Tasreef’ continues the series of drainage projects launched by Dubai in 2019, which covered key areas such as the Expo Dubai site, Al Maktoum International Airport City, and Jebel Ali. This initiative comes in response to the unprecedented rains that recently flooded the UAE, underlining the urgent need for a sustainable and adaptable drainage solution.

The project will employ the latest Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), the largest in the Middle East, renowned for their efficiency, speed, and precision. These advanced machines are capable of navigating diverse topographical conditions, ensuring the seamless execution of this critical infrastructure.
