UAE’s Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) Insurance Scheme: A Guide for Employees

The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation introduced the unemployment insurance scheme in January 2023, applicable to both national and expatriate employees in the public and private sectors.

Subscribing to the UAE’s ILOE insurance scheme is mandatory by law for all government and private sector employees, including Freezone workers. Employees who fail to sign up or renew their ILOE insurance policy face a fine of Dh400.

Expats and Emiratis who subscribed to the ILOE policy at the beginning of 2023 have received renewal reminders. You can renew your ILOE insurance before it expires or even immediately after. Here’s a guide to help residents navigate the renewal process.

How to Renew Your ILOE Insurance?

Visit the Official ILOE Insurance Website: www.iloe.ae

For Renewal

  • Click on the red ‘Subscribe/Renew’ button. A new web page will open. Under the ‘Individual’ category, select the option that applies to you.

There are three options

  • Private sector
  • Federal Government employee (Public sector)
  • Non-Registered in MOHRE (Freezone workers)

Click the ‘Confirm’ button.

Sign In

  • You can sign in using an OTP sent to your mobile number or with your registered user login credentials.
  • If you choose OTP, you will need to provide your Emirates ID, registered mobile number, and date of birth.
  • You will then have the option to renew your insurance policy, confirm your details, and choose the policy term.

Payment

  • Select ‘Renew’ or ‘Subscribe’ and proceed to the card payment tab.
  • Enter your card details. After successful payment, your ILOE insurance will be renewed for another year.

Categories of ILOE

The insurance program is divided into two categories:

Category A

  • Covers employees with a basic salary of Dh16,000 or less per month.
  • The insurance cost is Dh5 per month or Dh60 annually.

Category B

  • Covers employees with a basic salary of Dh16,000 or more per month.
  • The insurance premium is Dh10 per month or Dh120 annually.

Claiming the Policy

Employees terminated from their jobs can claim the insurance policy. Claims must be submitted within 30 days of unemployment through approved channels:

  • The insurance pool’s e-portal
  • Smart application
  • ILOE call center
  • To be eligible for the job loss payment, residents must have worked and subscribed to the insurance program for at least 12 months, provided they have not been terminated for disciplinary reasons or due to resignation. Compensation is paid within two weeks of the claim and is capped at a maximum of three months per claim.
  • The ILOE insurance does not cover investors or owners of the establishments they work in, domestic helpers, part-time employees, workers under 18, and retirees entitled to a pension who have taken on a new job.

Compensation Benefits

The monthly compensation is 60% of the average basic salary over the most recent six months prior to the involuntary loss of employment.

  • Category A: Maximum claim benefits of Dh10,000 per month.
  • Category B: Maximum claim benefits of Dh20,000 per month.
  • Maximum compensation for any one claim: three consecutive months.
