Solar energy panel installations at the Dubai Metro Depots in Jebel Ali and Al Qusais and the Tram Depot in Al Safouh have begun, according to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The project is scheduled to produce 9,959 megawatts of solar electricity, which is anticipated to be finished by the first quarter of 2024.
RTA is working to bring the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy and the “Shams Dubai” initiative of the Dubai government to life through this project. Additionally, it helps RTA realize its long-term vision, which focuses on three main areas: waste management, buildings and related facilities, and public transportation, with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
One important component of sustainable renewable energy sources is solar photovoltaic power systems, which help RTA in its attempts to increase the infrastructure of its facilities’ efficiency. Solar panels also improve environmental sustainability, lower carbon emissions, save money, and conserve resources.
There are two main stages to installing solar panels. The first stage is the mechanical setup, which involves mounting the PV panels and erecting the supporting structures.
The second stage is the electrical setup, which includes connecting the solar energy system and laying out the wiring. It is anticipated that RTA will save 3,962 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually in total. At Jebel Ali Metro Depot, 3,165 megawatts of solar energy are produced; at Al Qusais Metro Depot, 3,804 megawatts; and at Al Safouh Tram Depot 2,990 megawatts. Solar panels are supposed to last between 25 and 30 years. A periodic maintenance program was created to evaluate these facilities’ operational efficiency and follow up on energy production readings.
A reputable regional award that highlights the accomplishments of people, projects, and businesses in mechanical and electrical engineering, the MEP Middle East Awards, have recognized the solar panel installation project on RTA’s buildings and facilities.
