More than just trees are being planted in Dubai as the city strives to become greener. HH Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has made an announcement that will alter the drinking habits of the city’s people. He explained that.
The emirate of Dubai has introduced a new project called Dubai Can, which provides free drinking water at selected locations.
With the inauguration of the project on Tuesday, Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum began encouraging the usage of reusable water bottles by installing drinking stations across Dubai.
Up to 50 additional water refilling stations will be installed across Dubai in an effort to improve access to clean water.
The vast bulk of Dubai’s drinking and tap water is made from salt water that has been desalinated. The rest of the city’s water supply is derived from deep beneath the surface of the land.
A growing number of people in Dubai are calling for a reduction in the use of plastic. According to estimates, the average UAE citizen uses 450 plastic water bottles per year. Plastic is predicted to outnumber fish in the oceans by the year 2050, according to current estimates.
Refillable water bottles are encouraged with the provision of 34 free water refilling stations throughout Dubai.
