Electric Bike sharing stations are popping up all over Dubai this week. Below photo shows one of the bike sharing stations set up by Careem Bike in Karama Park area.
Careem Bike is a bike sharing service where one pays a membership fee for being a member of the bike sharing service. Bike sharing services are popular in several cities around the globe. It is a welcome addition to Dubai. It gives people the option to choose public transport. The bikes have an electric motor and will automatically assist your cycling once you start pedalling.
Dubai RTA has signed a contract with Careem to operate 3,500 bicycles across 350 smart docking stations in Dubai.
To become a member of Careem Bike, one needs to download the Careem Bike app from the Google and Apple app stores and create an account. And add their credit or debit card information. Then select a membership plan that they would like to opt for.
Careem Bike Membership:
- Daily- AED 20
- Weekly – AED 45
- Monthly – AED 69
- Yearly Membership – AED 399
There are unlimited number of trips available in every package. Each trip can be completed in 60 minutes. If exceeding 60 minutes, you will be automatically charged AED 20 per hour. Take the bike, drive to your destination and drop the bike at the docking station and walk away.
In the first phase of the project, lasting two years, Careem will operate 1,750 bikes and install 175 solar-powered docking stations.Over the next five years, the number of bikes will grow to 3,500 in total, with an additional 175 docking stations added to the network.
