Dubai’s 50-year charter by Sheikh Mohammed

To commemorate 50 years of serving his homeland, his Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has initiated a 50-year Charter for Dubai. 9 projects for 2019 were included in the Charter that would improve the quality of life for its residents over the next 50 years. However, Dubai’s 50-year charter would be renewed with exceptional projects in Dubai.

1: Dubai Silk Road

Dubai has a great fortune in being located centrally, between the east and west, north and south globally. As a top destination worldwide, it has the largest international airport that connects Dubai to more than 200 cities. In the coming 10 years, more than a billion passengers are expected to travel through Dubai airport. While 80 ports worldwide interconnect cities, the first project emphasizes to build Dubai’s own Silk Road. International cooperation will be sorted for to support these aspirations.

2: A Geo-Economic Map for Dubai

The 2nd Project in the 50-year charter is the geo-economic map for the city of Dubai and setting up of specialised and integrated economic zones in the whole city. Dubai. Each geo-economic sector will be having its own council who manages and markets it. It will also have its own economic and investment goals. An appointed Governor will be evaluating the progress and achievement of its goals


3:  First Virtual Commercial City

Dubai will have its first virtual commercial city that will grant commercial licenses without having to reside in Dubai. It will allow investors to open bank accounts and e-residencies will be granted according to best international laws. The project aims to have 100,000 companies in the virtual city.

4: A Central Education File for Every Citizen

The Charter aims to develop a centralised education database. It will enable every citizen to document all the academic degrees obtained, classes taken and conferences attended. This will facilitate the authorities to design customised educational plans for each citizen that will suit his or her personal skills. Such an educational and learning system will explore and develop people’s skills.

5: A Doctor to Every Citizen

The Charter looks forward to transform the medical system by bringing doctors closer to individuals, enhancing awareness and utilizing top medical minds globally. This will be supported by smart government application.

6: Free Economic and Creative Zones in Universities

Dubai has its roots in trade. Public and private universities that will allow students to carry out business and creative activities will be declared as free zones. These zones around universities will support students with research, education and funding during the launch of their projects. Such activities will not only be a part of the education and graduation system but will also shape integrated economic and creative zones around the universities.

7: Self-sufficiency in Dubai Homes

Dubai has a long term vision for its citizens to be self-sufficient in terms of water, food and energy. The Charter will initiate an integrated program that will create a new economic sector that will support energy, water and food self-sufficiency in the houses of Dubai, for minimum one month, to be increased later.

8: Cooperative Companies in Various Sectors

This is a long-term project of the 50-year charter that aims to provide new sources of income, improve the quality of some services through privatization, and to establish cooperative companies owned by citizens in several vital sectors.

9: Annual Growth in Philanthropy

Apart from the daily businesses and projects, those who are needy will not be neglected. The Charter aims to increase the number of philanthropic initiatives each year. It will also expand and develop them by at least an equal percentage of its annual economic growth. Charity is in fact a major factor in the happiness of societies reflected in the continuity of progress and prosperity.
