Dubai commuters can now access the real-time live location of buses using Google Maps, RTA has announced today. The live status of buses is already live at the time of writing. Below photo shows how Google Maps shows the bus timings.
Previously, the only way to access the bus live timings was using the Wojhati app. Most commuters already use the Wojhati app for route planning and live timing updates. But the new integration of live timings in Google maps is a welcome move by Roads and Transport Autority (RTA) of Dubai.
The implementation by RTA makes Dubai the first city in the Middle East to use open data in public transport at par with 100 smart cities across the globe. This is further expected to help tourists who are familiar with Google maps to better navigate the city’s bus routes.
