Automated Parking System introduced in Dubai

A fully automated, ticketless parking system has been introduced in the East Crescent of Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. Using sensors and cameras, the system detects vehicles and calculates parking fees based on the license plate, allowing drivers to park easily without the need for tickets or meters. This service is operated by the private company Parkonic.

What is the operating mode of the automatic parking system?

As soon as a vehicle arrives in this area, 1.5-foot-high sensors and ground cameras detect it, read the license plate, and record the arrival time. There is no need for a parking meter, app, or SMS. Since vehicles are parked parallel to the road, both front and rear plates are clearly captured. Without tickets or barriers, the parking session is automatically recorded, eliminating the hassle of lost tickets or waiting in payment queues.

How much does parking cost per hour?

The parking fee at East Crescent is AED 10 per hour, and it operates 24/7. Payments can be made via the Parkonic website, QR code, payment kiosks, or credit card. Parkonic staff are also available for assistance.

Seamless AI-powered parking system

Parkonic introduced a seamless AI-powered parking system at Dubai Harbour last month. It has partnered with Salik to enable automated payment deductions from drivers’ Salik accounts. Parkonic plans to expand its services across the UAE, including key locations such as Union Coop, Global Village, and JBR. Under the five-year agreement signed last November, Parkonic will allocate a percentage of its revenue through the Salik e-Wallet. This partnership covers over 135,000 parking spaces.

How does an automated parking system work?

  • Parkonic’s AI-powered parking system automatically detects vehicles by scanning their model and license plate, generating a virtual parking ticket without manual input.
  • Payments are integrated with Salik but can also be made via QR code, SMS, kiosk, mobile app, web portal, or Tap&Go. Parkonic operates in key locations across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Fujairah, including Global Village, The Beach – JBR, and Central Park.
