Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse on January 21: Where to Watch in UAE?

The blood red super moon is rising across the world. On the night of January 21, people across the globe can witness the Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse. It will be the first lunar eclipse of the year, with three more eclipses expected in 2019. Dubai Astronomy Group has clarified that two astronomical phenomena will overlap – a supermoon and an eclipse. Though UAE residents can enjoy the supermoon, the eclipse will unfortunately start after the moon sets on the horizon.

What Is Supermoon?

When the moon coincides with the nearest point in its elliptical orbit that is closest to earth, the full moon appears significantly brighter and bigger. It is then called a supermoon. It appears seven per cent larger than an average full moon and 14 per cent bigger than a micro moon.

This supermoon is also going to be a Blood Moon. It is referred to the hue of the moon as the light from the Earth reflects on the moon giving it a reddish tinge. It is also being called as the Wolf Moon for historical reasons. In early colonial and native American times, the full moon in January month was called the Wolf Moon as it appeared when wolves howled in hunger outside the villages.
