A new initiative christened ‘Connect with Happiness’ by General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA), Smart Dubai and Du Telecommunications will now provide all tourists entering Dubai free SIM cards packed with complimentary talk time and data. All tourists aged over 18 years of age with transit, visit and visa-on-arrival, can now get a SIM card at the Dubai airport’s immigration counter. The said SIM will remain valid for a month. It works in sync with the immigration system, which will be deactivated once the tourist exits the country. Also it comes with 3 minutes’ talk-time and 20 MB free mobile data. However, you can top up the card during your stay if you want.

The 30 day SIM card comes as part of the collaborative ‘happiness’ project launched to improve tourists’ stay in Dubai. Dubai has always been a tourist-friendly destination that attracts millions of visitors from all over the world every year. As per the data provided by Dubai Tourism, this place received around 4.75 million international overnight visitors during the first quarter of 2019, in which the number of Indian visitors was the highest. By offering free SIM card to tourists, Dubai looks forward to increase its presence in prominent tourism markets and promote itself as a business destination. It aims to attract 23 to 25 million visitors annually by 2025.
