‘Fabric(ated) Fractures’ Art Exhibition at Alserkal Avenue
March 9 - March 23Free
Dubai’s foremost contemporary arts and culture district Alserkal Avenue is collaborating with Samdani Art Foundation to present ‘Fabric(ated) Fractures’, a group exhibition featuring work from artists across Bangladesh, South Asia, and Southeast Area. The Samdani Art Foundation, an independent Dhaka-based art trust, provides a platform to contemporary artists and architects in Bangladesh.
‘Fabric(ated) Fractures’ is founded upon the premises of ‘sensitive spaces,’ a term described by anthropologist Jason Cons as territories that retain the foundations of their social fabric even if they have been deserted and ruined. Speaking to the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 and the formation of Bangladesh, the exhibition plays upon the interconnectedness of language, identity, and community.
The show is an extension of the exhibition “There Once was a Village Here,” held at the 2018 Dhaka Art Summit. Alserkal Avenue’s multi-disciplinary venue Concrete will host the exhibit for two-weeks in March.
